In-conversation with Teulu Tribe

We catch-up with @TeuluTribe, aka, Becka and Zach, to hear their intro to sailing and renovation work they've done onboard there 1985 Colvic Victor 40 Ketch.

Short and sweet intro:
We are Becka and Zach, a couple of Brits who back in 2020, bought a 40ft sailing boat (with not a tonne of experience), and have now found ourselves in Pacific Mexico, 19 countries and 8000 miles later with our goal set on sailing to Alaska.

What type of sailing do you do?
We are cruisers- meaning we don’t go fast, but we go offshore often and get to explore some of the remotest corners of the earth! We also try and stay out of marinas when we can avoid it as we prefer being on anchor.

Where have you sailed?
We have sailed to 19 countries (England, France, Spain/Canary Islands, Portugal, Cape Verde, Antigua, Dominica, Martinique, Guadaloupe, The Grenadines, Grenada, Bonaire, Curacao, Aruba, Columbia, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Mexico)

Why did you guys choose a Scanpod?
We had seen Scanstrut equipment on other boats before and loved the quality and some of the innovative aspects of the gear. Also, it’s always nice to support a company from our home waters.

What has the Flex Mount enabled you to do?
As we have a curved bar on our helm we were a bit limited on where we could mount our new chartplotter. Luckily the flex mount worked perfectly in this situation- it also allows us to adjust the pod's height for the person who is on the helm.

Any favorite features of the Scanpod and the flex mount
It was great how easy it was to install - all the parts are labeled and the instructions were fantastic. We also like how customisable it is, and by far, our favorite aspect is quality. On a boat, everything has to withstand the elements, and it’s great to install equipment we know won’t rust, wear, or break over time. We really couldn’t have asked for a more solid pod.

What will this enable you to do now?
Having our Raymarine chart plotter in a location that wouldn’t be possible without our Scanstrut pod is a huge safety factor. Not only will it allow us to helm with our charts clearly visible, but now we have installed radar, we can rest assured knowing we can have our navigation and safety aids solid and reliable at all times.

Future plans:
We are currently in the Sea of Cortez in Mexico and planning on leaving Mexico to head up to British Columbia, Canada, and then Alaska. As far as boat renovations go we will just be preparing Teulu for the colder weather we are expecting in Alaska but adding some more heat sources and an outside enclosure to keep the rain off the cock pit area.
